World Ship Society

The Society began life in 1947 as the Ship News Club and changed its name to the World Ship Society in 1949.  The news was initially produced on duplicated sheets but these had made way for the first edition of the magazine Marine News in July 1947.  Marine News reached a milestone in January 2013 when it was made available to members in PDF format although a printed copy is available at extra cost.  The Society published it's first company history 'Albyn Line' in 1950 and today the list of publications is quite extensive.  Publications are made available to members at Trade Prices and with our close proximity to the Society's Library and Archive in the Chatham Historic Dockyard they can be ordered through the Branch.  The link to the Society's Website can be found on the 'Links' page.

North West Kent Branch

The Branch was founded in 1977 and held it's first meeting at the Temple Hill Community Centre in the November of that year.  We began as a sub-branch of the London & Home Counties Branch but were granted full-branch status in time for our first A.G.M.   Those attending our meetings are mainly from within the DA postcode area but we also attract members from S.E.London and the Medway Towns.  In 1987 we hosted the Society's main A.G.M. at Gravesend and we have also hosted both the South East inter-branch quiz and the South East inter-branch photographic competitions. We are proud to say that the Branch name appears on both trophies.  The events are now held at Gravesend, usually at the beginning of October (see Branch Programme for further details).

We are a small and friendly Branch so if you have an interest in ships and shipping why not come along to one of our meetings?
